JASPER, MO. — A suffocating pressure defense earned the Colgan girls’ basketball team an impressive season-opening win Tuesday night in Jasper.
The Panthers allowed just 6 second-half points en route to a 66-25 win. Colgan was paced by senior Allison McCormick, who scored a game-high 18 points. Annie Dellesega and Ashley Werner added 11 each.
No Jasper player scored in double figures. Rachel Bausinger and Ivy Sisseck each scored a team-high six points. After scoring 10 points in the first quarter, Jasper, as a team, did not hit double figures in either of the last three quarters.
Colgan raced out to a 41-18 first-half lead behind a pressure defense that did not let up.
“We came out pressuring them to begin with,” Colgan coach Megan Simmons said. “I start five seniors. We are very experienced, and that experience combined with our defense led to some easy offense.”
The Panthers will take on Southeast Friday night.
