Following a disappointing season-opener last Friday against Bronaugh, the Northeast Vikings girls’ basketball team was looking to get on the winning track Tuesday at the Marmaton Valley Preseason Tournament.
With a solid shooting performance and a more aggressive attitude, the Vikings did just that, beating the host Wildcats, 46-36.
The Vikings were paced by Britney Clark’s 18 points. Shelby Lehman added 12 for Northeast. Lina Hensley also pitched in 6. Marmaton Valley was led by Maggie Meiwes, who scored 15 and was the Wildcats’ lone double-figure scorer.
Northeast coach Jason Clemensen said he was proud of his team’s ability to bounce back after last week’s loss.
“It’s always good to get the first win of the season,” he said. “We shot the ball a little bit better than we did Friday and we were a lot more aggressive. We created a lot of turnovers.”
The Vikings will take on Oswego at 4 p.m. Thursday in Marmaton Valley.
